Fringe 2018: Secret Hyde Away

The Fringe Show to See When You Don’t Know What to See

Words by Cameron Lowe

It is Fringe time once again! With the Fringe comes hundreds of different shows with a huge range of genres and talent. It is due to this that you might be overwhelmed and not sure of what shows to see. Well, there is a show for you that can solve that problem for you. This show is called Secret Hyde Away.

Secret Hyde Away is a variety show, which aims to display snippets of some of the shows that will be on during the Fringe. The audience will be treated to between 10-15 acts during the four shows, each one unique to the theme of the week. The genre mix is broad, with a mixture of stand-up comedy, drag, DJs, and circus to name just a few. A list of performers includes: Popomoko, Lazy Susan (DJ), and We Are Ian.

Talking with Lucia Van Sebille, one of the producers, she said this show started for three reasons: to give people a taste of what’s on at the Fringe, to give performers another platform, and wanting an excuse to party on a Monday. Van Sebille is a Flinders University student who is currently studying Honours in Drama.

On the list of acts performing are snippets from the Fringe shows Get Sweaty and Hello, It’s Me… Again, which star Mikayla Lynch and Cassie Litchfield respectively. Lynch and Litchfield, both Flinders BCA: Drama graduates, said they were inspired to appear in Secret Hyde Away as they wish to capture new audiences for their shows. Lynch is one of the two performers from Get Sweaty and Litchfield is the solo performer in Hello, It’s Me… Again. Further information on these shows can be found in the links provided.

For those who are interested in Secret Hyde Away, it will be held on Mondays at the Raj House on Hyde Street. Ticket entry will be $25 and the show goes on for about 4 hours each Monday from February 19th to March 12th. The themes of their next three shows are: 80s Prov (26th Feb), Futuristic (5th Mar), and Fringe Funeral (12th Mar). Fringe pass/performers can get in for free and hospitality workers can get 2 for $20.
